Paul Lanigan is an Australian author based in Melbourne, Victoria. A Shadow of Tin is his debut novel — the first instalment of the Billy Michaels series. He is currently at work on Book Two, A Network of Shadows, with Book Three, A Reckoning of Shadows, already underway.
Lanigan brings to fiction more than two decades of experience working inside large technology organisations, multinational corporations, and high-stakes commercial environments. His career has been built on reading institutions, managing strategic relationships, and operating in environments where the gap between what is said and what is meant is the most consequential thing in the room — the same terrain his protagonist navigates.
He spent eight years at Microsoft as National Partner Manager for Named, OEM, MNA and Distribution Accounts, with a regional remit extending to Singapore. He subsequently served as Business Development Manager for StarTech.com across Australia and New Zealand for over eight years. Earlier in his career, he built and led corporate training and learning development programmes at Primus Telecommunications. He is currently engaged in ICT and A/V consulting, sales coaching, and corporate training in the Melbourne business community.
His long-standing fascination with intelligence tradecraft, the moral architecture of covert operations, and the institutional culture of organisations that cannot officially exist is the creative foundation of the Billy Michaels series.
